In July, Dibukafé continued to provide a space for public discussion and cultural exchange in Braamfontein, with events spanning intellectual debate, journalism and contemporary South African poetry.
On 23 July, the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and the Embassy of France in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi hosted The Legacy of Frantz Fanon. A panel featuring Professor Ronit Frenkel, Professor Lucy Graham, Dr Dimpho Maponya and Dr Brian Sibanda, moderated by Bafana Radebe, considered the continuing relevance of Fanon’s ideas on colonialism, decolonisation, identity, inequality and social justice in South Africa and internationally.
On 29 July, Dibukafé welcomed the National Press Club for a networking session with Barnard Beukman, Editor of Die Papier, a new weekly newspaper. The discussion examined the current media landscape and the role of community journalism in covering local issues and maintaining connections with readers.
The following evening, Poetry Thursdays returned to Dibukafé with Rad Flower, Thobile Phudi and Sive Ka Joyi, bringing together three distinct poetic voices and performances in English and isiXhosa. The monthly poetry events are managed by poet Zama Madinana, who has been selected to perform at the Ars Poetica International Poetry Festival in Slovakia in November 2026. Congratulations, Zama!
