Malawi & France: Cultural Co-creation in the Warm Heart of Africa

Arts and Creative Industries

To mark its 30th anniversary, the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) commissioned a film crew to visit Malawi to meet artists and cultural practitioners who have taken part in projects supported over the past three decades. Filmed in Lilongwe and Blantyre, the video brings together personal reflections from those who have shaped and sustained this cooperation between France and Malawi.

The film gives space to the lived experience behind residencies, performances, exhibitions and professional exchanges. Participants reflect on how these collaborations have influenced their work, opened professional paths and created lasting connections across borders.

Directed by Adam Heyns, the film situates these voices within the broader framework of cultural exchange across Southern Africa. It forms part of a series marking the IFAS’s 30th anniversary, highlighting a longstanding commitment to supporting artists, strengthening partnerships and encouraging meaningful collaboration between France and the region.
