Discover the Voices of Réunion and Mayotte at FAME Week Africa 2026

Arts and Creative Industries

France has been named the Destination Focus for Fame Week Africa 2026, which will take place in Cape Town from 28 October to 1 November 2026. Bringing together professionals from the film, television, music, fashion and entertainment industries, the event serves as a major platform for exchange between African and international creative sectors.

Fame Week Africa includes four interconnected events: MIP Africa, Muziki Africa, the African Fashion Forum and the FAME Shorts Film Festival. Through conferences, showcases, networking sessions and market activities, the programme connects creators, producers, distributors, investors, broadcasters and decision-makers from across the continent and beyond.

The opening night of the Fame Shorts Film Festival will highlight the richness of contemporary storytelling from Réunion and Mayotte. FAME Week Africa 2026, where France is this year’s Destination Focus, showcases short films curated by La Kourmétragerie. Founded in 2019, the reunion organisation champions emerging filmmakers from the region, bringing their work to audiences in France and across the world.

The programme spans documentary, fiction and animation, exploring themes of identity, cultural heritage, resilience, love and environmental justice. From the historic streets of Mayotte to the rhythms of ancestral Maloya music, the audience will also experience a journey of adventure and exploration, confront the enduring legacy of slavery, and witness the impact of the MV Wakashio ecological disaster in the animated documentary.

This selection celebrates the diversity of French cinema beyond mainland France, highlighting the unique voices, cultures and landscapes of the Indian Ocean and unveils a new generation of filmmakers whose stories are deeply rooted in place while speaking to audiences across the globe.

Keep an eye out for the next newsletter, where details of the film makers and the short films will be revealed.
