From 13 to 16 October, 11 animators from South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius and Mozambique will come together at the Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct for the Regional Animation Lab. Over four days, participants will develop animation projects exploring tangible and intangible heritage through story, character and visual development, peer exchange and mentorship with the Mollo Animation Academy. The lab marks the first stage of a longer regional exchange across the Indian Ocean and in France. Over four days, participants will develop their own animation projects through story, character and visual development, peer exchange and mentorship with the Mollo Animation Academy and the Fakâugesi Festival.
Inspired by the theme Tangible and Intangible Heritage of the Indian Ocean Region, the projects can draw on everything from places, objects and archives to oral histories, languages, rituals, memories and stories passed between generations. The lab is the first step in a longer regional journey, with selected animators and producers continuing through key animation and film platforms in Mozambique, Madagascar and Réunion, before culminating in opportunities connected to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market in France.
Catch the final project pitches at Fakâugesi on 16 October!
