The Futures_Past website is now live!

Arts and Creative Industries

A new website dedicated to Futures_Past: Amplifying Memory with Immersive Technologies is now live, bringing the programme’s exhibitions, research and creative collaborations together in one place.

Futures_Past is a two-year regional programme connecting artists, producers and archives in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi. Through research, co-creation, production, training and international exchange, the programme examines how immersive technologies can offer new ways to interpret and engage with archival collections.

At the centre of the website are six immersive exhibitions created with artists, archivists and cultural custodians across the three countries: Acts of Care, Dzulo Lathu (Our Yesterday), Kings of Lesotho_The Succession Story, Lucid Dreams of Sweet Water, To All Who Live In It and We Are What Remains. Each project draws on a distinct archive and uses formats including virtual and augmented reality, projection mapping, spatial sound, animation and interactive installation.

Visitors can learn more about the stories, archives, creative teams and partner institutions behind each exhibition, as well as find practical details on where and when to experience the works.

Visit the Futures_Past website to explore the exhibitions.

Futures_Past is an initiative of the Embassy of France in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi and the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), implemented in partnership with Electric South, with funding from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
