European Film Festival South Africa 2025

Arts and Creative Industries

The 12th edition of the European Film Festival in South Africa takes place from 9 to 19 October 2025, presenting ten contemporary films that reflect on themes of love, identity, family and belonging. Each film offers a window onto present-day Europe, exploring its place in the world through compelling characters, unusual situations and carefully crafted storytelling.

Audiences can attend live screenings at The Labia in Cape Town, The Bioscope Independent Cinema and Nu Metro Hyde Park in Johannesburg. A curated selection of titles will also be available to stream online throughout Southern Africa via www.eurofilmfest.co.za.

This year’s programme includes the French entry Le Mohican, a drama in which an unlikely hero, supported by his Corsican community, finds himself on the run from both the mafia and ruthless property developers seeking his land. His resistance transforms him into a local legend.

The festival is presented by the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival, with the support of the Delegation of the European Union, Cineuropa, and the embassies and cultural institutes of Denmark, Flanders, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Further details and regular updates can be found on the festival website and social media: Facebook |  Instagram | YouTube.
