On 1 September, Dibukafé welcomed KKASH, Tshegofatjo Makhafola and Zama Madinana for an evening of live poetry in Braamfontein.
The gathering formed part of Dibukafé’s monthly poetry programme, which creates regular opportunities for poets to share their work and meet audiences from across Johannesburg.
The evening held particular significance for Zama Madinana, who celebrated his new chapbook, Freedom Songs & Interludes, and raised funds towards his participation in the Arts Poetica International Poetry Festival in Bratislava, Slovakia, in November 2026.
The chapbook considers Africa’s beauty and burdens through poems addressing freedom, hope, inequality, war and immigration. For Madinana, the event also marked a return to a familiar venue, where his earlier readings helped establish the monthly poetry gatherings now hosted at Dibukafé.
Details of the next Dibukafé poetry evening will be announced soon!
