Eyethu FrancoXchange presents La nuit des rois in Soweto

Arts and Creative Industries

The final edition of Eyethu FrancoXchange for 2026 will present La nuit des rois (Night of the Kings), a film by Philippe Lacôte.

Inside Côte d’Ivoire’s infamous MACA prison, a young inmate is chosen to become the ‘Roman’ — the storyteller who must entertain the prisoners throughout the night, during the red moon. Blending reality, myth, and African oral traditions, Night of the Kings is a visually striking and powerful story about storytelling, power, and survival.

The screening will take place on Thursday, 4 June 2026, at Eyethu Heritage Hall in Soweto. Doors open at 18:00 and the film starts at 19:00. Tickets are available for R50 via Quicket and R80 at the door.

Eyethu FrancoXchange is presented by Eyethu Heritage Hall in partnership with the Alliance Française Soweto and the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), continuing a growing platform for Francophone African cinema in Soweto.
