On Thursday, 10 April 2025, the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) hosted a group of fashion entrepreneurs from Botswana as part of the Création Botswana programme—an initiative by the Alliance Française de Gaborone and the National Arts Council of Botswana, with the support of the French Embassy in Botswana.
The group was welcomed by Yann Hwang, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of France in South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi. They heard presentations from renowned designer Lukhanyo Mdingi, Création Africa Top 12 Finalist Glorinah Mabaso, and Lesiba Mabitsela, Director of the African Fashion Research Institute, before enjoying the opportunity to network and connect over lunch.
Focused on fashion and textile design, Création Botswana aims to strengthen the country’s cultural and creative industries by empowering emerging entrepreneurs and encouraging sustainable growth and innovation in the fashion sector.
Their visit to Johannesburg was an opportunity to explore South Africa’s creative economy, build cross-border connections, and exchange ideas with local practitioners and institutions.
