The first edition of the Création Africa Forum is set to take place at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris.
In July 2022, the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron announced the establishment of an event called Création Africa Forum. A forum centered around the cultural and creative industries, the Création Africa Forum is set to be a place for intercontinental creation, gathering, discovery, information and innovation. The inaugural forum is organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD), Business France, French Public Investment Bank (Bpifrance) and the Institut français in Paris.
An exchange between Africa and France, the forum will welcome more than 200 professionals from the African continent. Of this total, 40+ South African players will make their way to Paris at the invitation of the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), Business France and Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct.
As a part of the forum’s interactive programme, South Africa is bringing a total of 6 virtual reality and immersive artworks in addition to 1 keynote presentation and 1 series screening. Facilitated by the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and the French Embassy in South Africa, the South African presentations will demonstrate what intercontinental exchange, support and partnership can do.
Digital and immersive artworks: Specifically commissioned for Forum Création Africa, the first artwork is an immersive digital installation titled Kwasukasukela – In the Beginning, by artists Xabiso Vili and Inka Kendzia. Other works include new works by Moratiwa Molema (Botswana) and Shmerah Passhier and previously produced works by Sonwabo Valashiya, Nirma Madhoo, Rick Treweek, Ree Trewee, Shariffali and Yetende Dada. Several works are the fruits of Digital Lab Africa incubation program driven by Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct, IFAS and AFD longstanding partner.
