The Futures_Past Immersive Arts Mapping Study is building a public directory of practitioners, organisations and institutions working across South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi.
The directory will form part of the final Mapping Study report and aims to make it easier for people working in the sector to find one another, identify potential collaborators and build a clearer picture of immersive arts activity across the three countries.
Submissions are open to practitioners, studios, creative-tech hubs, venues, festivals, archives, training institutions, funders, researchers and others working across virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), extended reality (XR), 360° media, interactive installations, spatial sound, projection, games, digital heritage and related fields.
By contributing to the directory, participants will help document who is working in the sector, where they are based and the kinds of practices, technologies and projects currently being developed across the region.
The directory forms part of the wider Futures_Past: Amplifying Memory with Immersive Technologies programme, which brings together creative practitioners and archival institutions across South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi. Alongside the six immersive works being developed through the programme, the Mapping Study examines the broader immersive arts sector and the conditions in which practitioners are working.
Practitioners and organisations working in the field are encouraged to submit their details and share the call with others across the sector.
