South Africa represented at the inaugural Lumière Summit

Arts and Creative Industries

The first Lumière Summit took place in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, on 7 September 2026, bringing together 220 representatives from 54 countries across the film and audiovisual sectors. Co-chaired by France and the Republic of Korea, the Summit focused on creation, financing, audiences and wider industry responsibilities.

South Africa was represented by Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie and Durban FilmMart Institute Director Magdalene Reddy, who were invited to take part in the gathering.

On the sidelines of the Summit, Minister McKenzie met French Minister Delegate for Francophonie Éléonore Caroit to discuss cooperation between France’s Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC) and South Africa’s National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), as well as further opportunities for collaboration between the two countries’ film industries.
