The Girls in Game Development Game Jam 2026, organised and hosted by Origin Point Games and supported by IFAS, recently brought together talented Grade 8 to 12 IT students from across South Africa for an exciting week of creativity, collaboration and innovation at St Andrew’s School for Girls.
The programme began with a game development workshop before students took part in an intensive one-day Game Jam, where teams designed and built French themed original games using the game engine of their choice. The event concluded with a public showcase, giving parents, teachers and industry guests the opportunity to experience the games, vote for the Crowd Favourite award and celebrate the winning teams.
Open to young women studying IT, the initiative continues to encourage more girls to explore careers in game development and the wider interactive media industry. By combining technical skills with creativity, teamwork and problem-solving, the Game Jam provides valuable hands-on experience while helping to build a more diverse and inclusive future for South Africa’s games industry.
