Festival de la Francophonie celebrates culture and diversity in Pretoria

Education

On Saturday, 28 March 2026, the Francophonie Festival brought together communities in Pretoria for a day-long celebration of language, culture and exchange as part of Francophonie Month. Held at the Lycée Français Jules Verne in Arcadia, the event welcomed a wide public to discover the richness and diversity of the Francophone world through a varied and accessible programme.

Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed live performances by Reunion Island artist Ziia, Swiss singer Marie Jay and Greek artist Anna Poltzoglou, alongside dance and fashion presentations. A vibrant village of embassy stands further animated the festival, with 14 countries represented, each offering a glimpse into their cultural heritage. Participating embassies included Belgium, Cameroon, Canada, Cîte d’Ivoire, Cyprus, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, Egypt, France, Guinea, Mexico, Senegal, Switzerland, and Tunisia.

Now in its 17th edition, the festival is the result of collaboration between the Embassy of France in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi, the Alliance Française of Pretoria, the Lycée Français Jules Verne, the French Institute of South Africa, and a wide network of Francophone partners.
