Muriel Huet receives Education Award at the Trophées des Français de l’étranger 2026

Education

French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) partner Muriel Huet received the Trophée Éducation 2026 at the Trophées des Français de l’étranger. Organised by lepetitjournal.com, the awards recognise French citizens living abroad whose initiatives contribute to the influence of France and to social, cultural and educational exchange worldwide.

Based in South Africa, Huet has developed a range of educational initiatives that connect language learning, creativity and cultural engagement. She is the founder of the programme Épelle-Moi Afrique du Sud, which encourages young people to learn and practise French through spelling competitions and collaborative activities. Since its launch, the initiative has brought together a diverse network of schools and learners across South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi, including Francophone students from underprivileged backgrounds as well as students from French schools, fostering meaningful exchange and actively promoting the French language in multilingual contexts.

Huet is also the co-director and founder of CinemaTAKE, a non-profit organisation that promotes cinema and filmmaking among young people from townships, empowering them to tell their own stories. Through this work, they contribute to the CCAJ Cinéma Cent Ans de Jeunesse programme and supports opportunities for young participants to travel to France each year.

Huet’s work also explores innovative ways of teaching languages through cinema and audiovisual storytelling. With over 20 years of experience in education, teacher training and curriculum development across several countries, she continues to support educators and learners in discovering new approaches to language learning and cultural exchange.
