Stogie T, Muneyi, Maleh to Headline the 13th Fête de la Musique at Victoria Yards

Arts and Creative Industries

One of Johannesburg’s most anticipated music festivals returns with an exciting lineup of headlining acts for the 2024 edition. This year’s Fête de la Musique, taking place on the 22nd of June at Victoria Yards from 1pm to7pm, promises to be an eclectic celebration of music and culture, open to all. The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) is excited to bring this event back for its 13th year with the support of TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa and Sampra, coproduced by Bassline.

Following the announcement of the supporting performers, here are the headlining acts for this year’s Fête de la Musique Johannesburg festival:

Leading the day’s lineup, Stogie T will bring renowned lyrical prowess and dynamic stage presence to Victoria Yards. A legend in the African hip-hop scene, Stogie T draws inspiration from his family’s history in the struggle for liberation in South Africa. His music represents the voices of many black youth on the continent, blending political commentary on societal instability and the daily challenges and freedoms of young Africans with the art of poetry.

Joining the stage is also Muneyi, a 25-year-old Traditional Indie-Folk singer-songwriter hailing from the evergreen, rural Venda.  His sound, deeply rooted in old Tshivenda folktales and modern influences, is largely inspired by his grandmother, the world around him, human behaviour, love, and his upbringing. With music that can be described as a healing experience – a meeting with the gods – Muneyi hopes to connect, heal, and inspire.

Maleh, the third festival headliner, is a soulful songbird from the landscapes of Lesotho. Malehloka ‘Maleh’ Hlalele is a singer and songwriter whose enduring career and sound blends the rich melodies and raw baselines of West and Southern African music. Her voice weaves these elements together to share tales of the seasons’ colours and the breadth of our emotions, creating a powerful and emotive musical experience.

In addition to these incredible headliners, we are excited to be joined by Haitian-Canadian Melissa Laveaux for a special performance. Her style is self-assured: a combination of folk, indie pop and her signature percussive finger-style blues guitar. Her writing is personal, her voice youthful and sensual, but the arrangements brightly burst of creativity, placing emphasis on rhythm and electronic sounds.
