Calls for proposals: Research on the prevention of unintended early pregnancy in South Africa and Malawi

Governance and Human Rights

If you are a researcher in human and social sciences, or a budget analysis specialist, you might be interested in the following two calls for proposals.

The Embassy of France in South Africa is inviting bids for two studies on:

The prevalence of unintended pregnancy amongst adolescent girls remains high in both countries, despite a multitude of stakeholders involved and interventions rolled out to attempt to prevent and manage these situations. Therefore it appears useful to reflect on the relevance, effectiveness, coherence and adequacy of the interventions deployed, as well as the volume of resources dedicated to prevention.

These two studies will be commissioned to generate much-needed factual and analytical information about existing prevention interventions, so as to generate data about the resources currently allocated to prevention interventions, and an assessment of their adequacy. The researches findings are expected to inform decision-making and future resource allocation by the various stakeholders concerned (governments, civil society, etc.)

The studies fall under a framework cooperation programme funded by the Embassy of France in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi in 2022-2023, to support the strengthening of the prevention of unintended early pregnancy in South Africa and Malawi.

Indeed this project is part of the global movement of the Generation Equality Forum that culminated in 2021 in Paris. During the Generation Equality campaign, stakeholders from the South African Coalition for Action on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) highlighted among other things the importance of the issue of unintended early pregnancy in the country, as confirmed by national statistics. It was also highlighted by stakeholders of the Spotlight Initiative in Malawi. The project aligns with needs identified by national and international partners.

Applications are open until the 7th of August. Do not miss it!
