On March 7, 2020, on the occasion of the Francophonie Day, the first edition of the French Spelling Bee – “Epelle-moi Afrique”, held at Crawford International Pretoria, was a great success and enthralled the audience.
Organized by the African Spelling Bee Federation and the French Embassy in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi, the final involved 10 secondary schools from Pretoria and Johannesburg, as well as pupils from the Pretoria campus of the French high school Jules Verne, and young Francophones from the French-speaking diaspora communities in Gauteng.
Building on this success, the 2021 edition will have a national dimension. The objective being in the future to have an international opening with other African nations.
Participation is free of charge and all pedagogical resources are offered to French teachers. A great opportunity for all French learners!
