Poetry Africa returns with Denis Brutus-inspired theme: Somehow We Survive
Poetry Africa is an annual international poetry festival featuring spoken word and publish poets in performances and dynamic engagements including panel discussions, campus and school visits, poetry exchanges, book launches, open mic sessions and the ever-popular slam jam competition.
This year’s theme is Poetry: Somehow We Survive, inspired by Denis Brutus’s poem, a leading South African poet, activist, educator and journalist. Celebrating the centenary of Brutus’s birth, the theme is intended to inspire poets to write as a response to how the human spirit survives and is resilient to the social and technological changes that impact our lives.
The 28th edition of Poetry Africa is curated and presented by the University of KwaZulu-Natal Centre for Creative Arts with the support of IFAS.
