Annual Francophonie Festival opening at Hoërskool Waterkloof on March 11th

The French Embassy in South Africa, Alliance Française in Pretoria and their francophone partners are glad to announce the opening of the annual Francophonie Festival that will take place on Saturday 11 March 2023

For the fifth time, the opening of the Francophonie Festival will be held in a Secondary School offering French as an additional language. This festive day will last from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event is free and accessible to all. Among other activities, the guests will enjoy a live performance of French band Sages comme des Sauvages, and Congolese band and DJ Genie Star.

Air France will offer participants a chance to fly to Paris as the winning prize for the raffle will be one return ticket from Johannesburg to Paris. !

During the day, participants will be able to explore the diversity and richness of francophone cultures around the world, through stands from 16 francophone countries. They will offer gastronomic specialities, cultural activities and touristic information.

That’s not all! Our sport partners will be demonstrating and inviting the public to play rugby (TUKS team), artistic swimming (KingfisherAquasync), cricket (Hoërskool Waterkloof) and pétanque (French Embassy).

The final of the French Spelling Bee competition will also take place at Hoërskool Waterkloof on that day, and the Laureates will be congratulated on stage.

This free family friendly event will features fun activities for all ages such as jumping castles, face paintings, a photobooth, food trucks and food stalls!

The Francophonie Festival offers a variety of cultural events from francophone countries represented in South Africa for the whole month of March 2023. This will include movie screenings, concerts, and other activities. Most of them will take place at Alliance Française in Pretoria.
