French duo Ibeyi electrifies at the third Salon No Format in Johannesburg

Arts and Creative Industries

This concert is part of the third edition of the “SALON NO FORMAT”, conceived by the French label No Format, in partnership with the French Institute of South Africa and the French Institute of Paris.

The Cuban-born French duo IBEYI, made up of twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz, performed at the acoustic concert venue Untitled Basement on May 31, 2023 for a one-off, intimate concert.

SALON NO FORMAT has a triple objective:

1) Diversify the musical offering by proposing a series of meetings with international artists;

2) Promote the exchange of expertise and musical co-productions between France and South Africa;

3) Strengthen the community and audiences that follow IFAS projects by creating a recurring audience, and ultimately build a real bridge between artists from Paris and Johannesburg, and between France and South Africa.

The strength of the project lies largely in the expertise and in-depth knowledge of the French and South African music scenes of the Parisian label No Format, led by its founder Laurent Bizot from South Africa.

The first two shows organized in Sept 2022 at the Joburg Theatre and in Feb  2023 at Untitled Basement were highly successful. They respectively enabled Cameroonian artist Blick Bassy and South African musician Bongesiwe to meet and collaborate in the studio and on stage, and French artist duo DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson with South African musician Laliboi.
