Dans6t to explore dance and resistance on tour across Southern Africa

Arts and Creative Industries

From 23 August to 7 September 2025, French dance company Dans6T will tour Southern Africa with Des Danses et Des Luttes (Of Dances and Struggles), a danced conference choreographed by Bouziane Bouteldja. Presented by the Alliance Française network in Southern Africa and the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre, the work will combine performance, storytelling, and audience participation to explore the social and political origins of global dance forms.

The piece will trace movement vocabularies born from protest, identity, and liberation—from the townships of apartheid in South Africa to the ballroom culture of voguing in New York. Bouteldja will invite audiences to consider dance not only as entertainment, but also as a shared language of resistance, dignity, and solidarity. By reclaiming the stage as a space for dialogue, Des Danses et Des Luttes will pay tribute to collective struggle and intercultural exchange.

The tour will include performances in Gaborone, Stellenbosch, Port Elizabeth, Harare, Bulawayo, Durban, Maseru, and Windhoek. In several cities, local dancers and companies will collaborate on stage, including Zimbabwe’s AfriKera, Bulawayo’s No Name Dance Crew, and the Lesotho-based Pantsula group Super Revolution.
