Dibukafé – our Living Library – is open!

Arts and Creative Industries

We are excited to announce the opening of Dibukafé, a new space designed to foster dialogue, critical thought, and artistic collaboration!

Dibukafé opened its doors on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, at 70 Juta Street in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. This new ‘third space’ is a concept by the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and the Dibuka Francophone Multimedia Library. It aims to be a venue for public debate, exhibitions, and cultural exchange between South Africa and France.

All Dibuka members are invited to visit Dibukafé! Grab a coffee from our neighbours at Skinner Café (we’re arranging a special discount for Dibuka members!). Members can borrow and return books from a wide and fine selection we have curated. While there, members still have the convenient option to consult Culturètheque and the Dibuka online catalogue.

Dibukafé opening hours:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday: 09:30 – 18:00
  • Thursday: 09:30 – 19:00
  • Friday and Saturday: 09:30 – 14:00
  • Monday, Sunday, and public holidays: Closed

Dibuka members can also continue to join our weekly Dibuka ‘pop-ups’ at the Lycée Jules Verne in Morningside on Fridays (excluding school holidays). Access the schedule for September 2025 here (French) and here (English).
