IQOQO – The Art & Creative Industries Platform in South Africa

Arts and Creative Industries

The French Institute and the French Embassy in South Africa, are excited to introduce IQOQO – the Art & Creative digital platform in SA, and we are inviting all professionals working within the fashion and museum industries to get involved.

Taken from the Zulu word iqoqo, which translates to “collection/ to collect”, this user-friendly online platform seeks to build a bridge between South African creative and cultural industries players and potential international partners while celebrating the diversity and richness of South Africa.

Developed by Breinstorm Brand Architects, IQOQO comes after the extensive study into the aforementioned industries, which explored some of the challenges faced and opportunities available within the creative and cultural contexts. Turning to the latest tech solutions for inspiration, the platform has several touchpoints for information sharing that local professionals can take full advantage of. An editorial section with the latest industry news and opportunities and a comprehensive directory highlighting the key players, businesses or institutions in these sectors and their contact information are other essential features on IQOQO. For potential international partners this is an opportunity to gain complete insight into these industries and understand where they can pledge their support.

The first phase, which we are launched at the 2021 Faku’gesi African Digital Innovation Festival, focuses on Fashion and Museums. Future phases will include animation, video games, virtual reality, architecture, design and art galleries/markets.

“We believe that this platform is essential to support the sustainability of partnerships between South African, French and global cultural and creative entities. Our hope is for it to be driven by local and international institutions; we know that this has the potential to become an important tool of support for these industries,” said French Ambassador Aurélien Lechevallier.

The development of IQOQO, was built in collaboration with the following institutions: SAMA – South African Museums AssociationDSAC – Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, SACO – South African Cultural Observatory and DTIC – Department of Trade, Industry and Competition.
