Green Libraries : Renewing the Future
Green Libraries : Call for Project Proposals
Goethe-Institut South Africa and French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) announce an open call for project proposals on the topic of “Green Libraries” focusing on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are looking for innovative and practical projects that can encourage libraries to become more sustainable and contribute to achieving the SDGs.
The SDGs are a universal call to action to protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. There are 17 SDGs, which include no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being,
quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice and strong institutions, and partnerships for the goals: https://sdgs.un.org/goals
We are particularly interested in projects that address one or more of the following areas:
- Sustainable programming and outreach initiatives that promote awareness and action on the SDGs
- Collaborative partnerships and community engagement initiatives that advance the SDGs.
- Create awareness of libraries’ social responsibility and leadership in environmental education
We welcome project submissions from libraries of all types and sizes, that are interested in advancing sustainable development through libraries. We encourage projects that are scalable, replicable, and have the potential for impact beyond the library community.
Selected projects will receive a seed funding / grant of up to 38 000 ZAR per project that will be realized between June and October 2023.
Selected projects will be invited to the Green Library Lab, which will take place in Johannesburg from 12 to 14 June. Travel costs and accommodation will be covered.
